Rise From The Ashes: Gant's A Dick
I couldn't reply to everyone's comments yesterday, so here, have my collective love~

If you think about it, this is Lana's way of saying "Oh God please please please don't get involved with Gant." Again, depressing.

"As much as I'd like to make out with you right here and now, we're in court, so..." Actually, on a serious note, this is a reference to DL-6 and the whole case with Manfred von Karma. I'd still be shaken up about it if I were him, so no, I won't make fun of him for it!

At this point I had apparently forgotten Gumshoe was off the case, because for a fraction of a second, I was confused at him not being the first witness. Oh me.

Yet another reference to "two years ago". By now, I'm sure any average player would start to wonder what the hell happened and how it could be related to this case.

I find Edgeworth's reaction very curious. Outwardly, yeah, he was just all "fuck you lady", but I'm fairly sure that, by now, the whole incident with von Karma had already caused some self-doubt in him. To me, this line is likely to be a bluff.

... Try as I might, I can't figure out this simile, but then again, I've never viewed a pumpkin chock full of seeds. Somebody help me.

... I-I dunno, man, I'm kinda disturbed over here.

No, I think that's assassins, actually. Get this witness off the stand, she's mixing everything up.

Somehow, even though it's my third time playing this, I couldn't remember what to present. So I, uh, presented the wrong thing (THEY SAID THE KNIFE'S BLADE WAS ABOUT 10 CENTIMETRES LONG, GUYS, THAT'S A CONTRADICTION). Yeah. Hey, I've done dumber. Just wait until I get to tell you all about that one time I couldn't figure out how Adrian shouldn't have thought Juan was just taking a nap...

Got it right on my second try, though! I guess my memory just tends to be a little late.

Ah, but this I remembered. Also, can't you just picture Gant watching his from above and cackling evilly while stroking his cat? His plan was a simple, yet effective one.

Man, no wonder Shelly offered him a job, Phoenix clearly knows how this shit works.

With how clearly biased Angel is, I think she might have been my first suspect for this case. If you'll look at the autopsy report above, Goodman was only stabbed once.
... Well, Lana only stabbed him once, anyway.

I wonder if any of Edgeworth's creepiest fangirls got the message Capcom was trying to give them with Ema. I'm going to guess they did not.

While it turns out that Lana really WAS wearing her scarf when Angel saw her for the first time, my thoughts at this point were that it's very likely that Angel's bias made her see only what she wanted to see. Did the defendant really stab Goodman as heartlessly as she describes? Well, that certainly is what she saw.

"... She was too mesmerised by my cleavage to resist arrest."

Finally, we find out Angel actually took about five minutes to reach Lana, and what the suspect did (or did not do) during that time period does not make sense. WE'RE GETTING TO THE POINT GUYS.

Aww yeah, the Judge is being awesome-- oh, yeah, this is not over yet.

Oh COME ON THIS IS A BRIBE. IN ADDITION TO PERJURY. GET THIS WOMAN OFF THE STAND.

Oh, is it time to foreshadow that thing that no one ever mentions again outside this case?

Contradiction or not, that is an awful lot of blood-- oh god why do I want to research how blood stains work now
You know, sometimes it sucks not to be a native speaker of English. In my first playthrough I had no idea "muffler" had multiple meanings, thus I was stuck here for quite an amount of time since I had absolutely no clue what to look for.

Oh, hey, this part of the case ended here, but I kept going. You know why? Because Gant is coming up, hell yeah!

Jake is physically incapable of speaking like a normal person. In fact, the most normal person in this case is probably Lana, and that's a bit depressing.

... Not gonna say anything, I'd be afraid to speak too if I were to face a man who looked so utterly pissed off.
And do you remember why he was so pissed off~?

Thaaat's right. 8D Finally, who I came here to see. Also, if you can't quite recall, Gant's first appearance is pretty much just him staring FOREVER while Phoenix and Ema wonder what the hell is going on.

One thing is made clear from the first time you see him: Gant's presence alone is intimidating.

[AFTER STARING AT EVERYONE CREEPILY] "Oh hi lol I just spaced out for a bit there"

We don't even know his name yet, and he's already being passive-agressive. How I didn't immediately notice he was a dick, I don't know (also, I have yet to figure out the reason behind his swimming fixation, but coupled with his tan and his "Summer Santa" looks, it leads me to believe that he's Australian).

Now, even though I can't remember exactly why or how, I already knew Gant was the killer; I knew nothing of his personality, though. Needless to say, I was very confused.
Anyway... this is when we find out about a knife that was wrapped up in Lana's muffler.

And Gant's already hard at work crushing Edgeworth. He's one of my favourite villains, you know; at first, I was skeptical because of his silly-looking design, but then I started to see how damn good he was at what he did.

And what he did was be a dick in disguise.

LOOK. LOOK HOW MUCH OF A JERK HE IS. He knows about the "double murder", but he's steering Phoenix towards it instead of revealing it outright. And he's doing it with a jolly grin on his face.

guys guys I think I see a contradiction here

And this should be the point in the case where the average player goes "WHAT THE FUCK".

Read: "JUST AS PLANNED."

Oh boy, here we go. Gant's claws are out. That "wait" seriously, honestly intimidates me.

GANT. YOU ARE A FUCKINGGENIUS MAGNIFICENT BASTARD. Let's all recap what he did: he deliberately sent an inept officer to deliver an incredibly important message knowing he'd fuck it up, then he goes to court the next day, steers an unknowning defence attorney into the incident described in said message and HE MAKES EDGEWORTH TAKE THE BLAME FOR WHAT HAPPENED.

He did the creepy stare just before this smirk and it was sdgdnrdj76 See, this evidence law stuff gets to me a little because it serves as a simple plot device for this case, and this case only.
... Oh, yeah, then Gant thanks Wrighto for his help. I love his puppetmaster-y side; really wish I could pull it off a bit better.

I don't blame Edgeworth for being like this; I'd probably have broken down into a sobbing mess in his place. It's just too much to take after what happened just two months earlier. D:
Next time: ... I think we get to spray luminol?
