So, uh... I've been thinking of doing a Pokémon playthrough just here on this journal. I won't even call it a Let's Play - just a casual thing, meant to be good fun among friends. Now, because I'm too sleepy to phrase this any other way, allow me to imagine you're actually interested enough to ask questions.


Right, so what game are you playing, and why that one? These all start to blur together after a while.
Pokémon SoulSilver, mainly because a) your Pokémon follow you in the overworld and that's adorable pretty interesting when you take into consideration the gimmick I want to use and b) I like it more than its counterpart, HeartGold, SO THERE.

Wait, gimmick?
Yeah, you know, you can name a bunch of stuff in these games (mainly, uh, your Pokémon), so I was thinking of naming them after characters we all love (mainly, but not necessarily, from Ace Attorney, knowing us all). I'd be asking you all for nicknames, mind you! In this initial phase, before I can freely rename my Pokémon whenever I wish, I'll mainly be asking around to whoever's on MSN, but once we get to the Name Rater, that's no longer an issue and you can just give ideas here on the comments. And, of course, you can always throw me ideas for Pokémon we've yet to meet!

Do I need to be familiar with Pokémon to "get" this?
Not really. I'll try to explain any unfamiliar concepts to the best of my ability.

Will you be doing this every day?
You know me. Read: probably not. But we'll see how far I can take this, eh?

So, let's pretend I'm into this idea. How do we begin?

Choose a gender and a name for our Player Character. Depending on your choice, I might narrate this stuff from their point of view or not. If you pick the name of a character I can write more or less consistently, for example. ;; But don't think too hard about it, we'll see how it plays out.

Next, we need to pick our starter and a name for it!



Totodile is a pretty good one, excelling in physical attacks. It evolves into a blue killing machine with a dumb name.




Chikorita is... typically considered subpar for her limited movepool, but I loved her as a kid and I STILL LOVE HER, GODDAMMIT. Evolves into a big gay dinosaur.




I was never a big fan of Cyndaquil, but it's apparently (technically) better than Chikorita, so hey. It evolves into a... a... badger or something.


After this is all decided, I'll start the game. As in, you know... start it. P-PLEASE ASK ME TO ELABORATE ON ANYTHING IF I WAS UNCLEAR, I'M SLEEPY RIGHT NOW AND I SHOULD BE BETTER TOMORROW MORNING.

...This reminds me that I still need to pick SoulSilver back up and start playing it again. XD;; I got halfway through and stopped. I was doing pretty good too!
-Heeey wait what do you mean Cyndaquil's not awesome? D8 I always liked him! (Though I was always partial to the fire type starters myself, ever since ol' Red and Blue with Charmander.) I heart Quilava the most and having one follow me around all the time in the game is, is, is, eeeee <3 That thing with the Pokemon following you was totally the biggest reason I got that game to begin with!

Heck, I was able to get a male one as my starter on HG and I was so happy. (Also his name is Chad and he is happy to be a big gay dinosaur)
